GLIZIGEN contains glycyrrhizimic (GA):
- GA has been proposed as an antiviral against different viruses because it acts (in vitro and in vivo) preventing the replication of DNA and RNA viruses (VZV, HIV, influenza A and B, herpes simplex (HSV) 1 and 2, hepatitis B and C, amongst others).
- GA diminishes the replication of the virus at an early stage. It also prevents the virion emerging from its capsid and thus its penetration into the cells. These effects have been associated with a selective and dose-depending inhibition of the phosphorylation of Kinase P.
- The anti-inflammatory activity of GA is due to the inhibition of the production of prostaglandin E2 as well as the lythic pathway within the complement system.
- GA has an anti-ulcerous and antiviral action and induces the production of interferon.
Glycirrhizinic acid interacts with virus structures (proteins), producing different effects depending on the affected viral stage:
- Inactivation of extracellular virus particles.
- Prevention of the intracellular de-capsulation of infecting particles.
- Deterioration of the assembling capacity of the structural components of the virus.
